What is item quality?

Every crafted item draws values from the resources used to make it. Running from 0 to 1000, it defines how far the item is from its maximum or minimum possible stats. More powerful items often require more from the battleframes they are equipped on.

What is Research?

When you first start a character in Firefall you initially only have access to basic equipment recipes. The Research tab on the crafting terminals allow you to unlock additional stages for a wide variety of gear and processes. This process requires both Crystite and time for the research to complete and Stage 4 research can take several days to complete. Fortunely it can continue while you are offline, much like EVE Online.

RESOURCES, MINING AND LOOT

What does the percentage mean on scanhammer results?

The percentages are the concentration of resources on that spot. A thumper will always take the same length of time to mine and will fill itself as it progresses. However the ratio of resources and materials mined will be determined by the concentration on the spot you have dropped the thumper. Ideally players want to find the epicenter of a resource vien, this is where the concentration is the highest. You can easily spot which directly to look for the epicenter by watching the ripples on the scanning effects.

How do I calldown my Thumper?

Open your nav wheel, select Call-downs with left click, then Resource Gathering (again with left click) and then choose your thumper. This will add it to your abilities bar at the bottom. Press the key you have bound to 'use ability 4'. This will bring up a hologram of the thumper, if the hologram is blue press left click to calldown the thumper on that spot. If it is red or no hologram appears you cannot put a thumper at that location.

What do the stats on resources do?

The stats themselves are not linked to any specific part of item creation. Recipes may use the same stat for very different things, one item may use Conductivity for ability recharge times while another may use Conductivity for damage per shot. Always start by wanting something to craft and then get the resources for it, rather than attempting to figure out what can craft with the resources you have found.

BATTLEFRAME GEAR AND EQUIPMENT

Why can't I equip this item I made/purchased?

All items have a minimum requirement which is listed on their information. Some can only be used on certain battleframes or require a specific constraint slot unlocks. The battleframe also has a maximum amount of Power, Mass or CPU it can support and every item requires a certain amount of these three factors. If you exceed any of these you cannot save the new loadout.

My high quality item isn't much better than the stock version, why?

The Stage-I items are only around 10% better than stock at best, Stage-II is around 25% better than stock gear at most. This means you may find it better to not use your best materials for S1 and S2 items since you are never going to see a huge increase in performance. Quality 500-600 items will be perfectly adequet for your first crafted gear. Here is the exact figures from Red 5 Studios themselves:

Stock - 100%
Stage I ~100-110% of Stock
Stage II ~105-125% of Stock
Stage III ~115-150% of Stock
Stage IV ~140-225% of Stock

What is Durability?

Items in Firefall have the potential to permanently break. The durability determines how well it functions and as the durability drops the item also becomes less powerful, when it reaches 0 the item stops working. The durability pool can be refilled from the repair pool but eventually this repair pool will also be emptied.
