Writing Add-ons
An add-on is a UI component: an XML file that declares the component, its events, textures and frames, and one or more Lua files with the code. Add-ons go into system\gui\components\MainUI\Addons of the game folder, mods replace files of the game's own interface elsewhere below system\gui. Red 5 shipped a set of Lua libraries with the game (lib_Slash, lib_Callback2, lib_InterfaceOptions, lib_ChatLib, ...), which most add-ons build on, and /rui reloads the interface without restarting the game.
Note that Firefall moved to Lua 5.2 with Update 1.6 on 2016-01-19, which broke a good part of the older libraries and add-ons, see the "Addon migration and updating help corner" thread of that time.

Add-on Managers
Installing an add-on by hand meant unpacking a zip into the right folder and doing it again for every update, as such the managers were what most players actually used.
- Melder by RadthorDax (thread, August 2012) kept a library of add-on zips, installed and removed them with a checkbox, backed up the game files that mods replaced and checked the forum threads for updates. The "Click here to install with Melder" buttons in the threads went through a page on astrekassociation.com.
- Meldii by Arkii (source, thread, February 2015) is a drop-in replacement for Melder that reads the same
melder_info.iniand adds Git repositories and direct downloads as sources. - Arcfolder by Binary Heartbeat (source, 2012) was meant to become a package repository for add-ons, with Melder as its client. The last commit is from February 2013, it was still marked as in development then.
- CurseForge had a Firefall section from 2013 to 2016. The pages and files are gone, but the Ephemeral Software Collection mirrored 62 of the projects with their downloads.
Add-on List
514 add-ons, mods and tools, sorted by name. For 141 of them a copy is still online, the rest is lost as far as we know. "Published" links to the original thread or project page in the Wayback Machine, "Archive" to the copies: the author's repository, a file host, an attachment the Wayback Machine kept, or the CurseForge mirror. A copy isn't always the last version, the version in the name of the link tells which one it is.
The description is the author's own where the add-on has one (its melder_info.ini or component XML), otherwise the CurseForge page, the repository or the first lines of the forum thread. "Version" is the last version the thread or a copy names. "Firefall" is the game version the author gave in the Melder information, "≈" marks an estimate from the date of the last update.
If you still have one of the lost ones on an old hard drive, let us know.
